The Roof of Africa: What you’re in for.
Its that time of the year again, when one of the most extreme enduro races come around to
challenge you both mentally and physically.
It comes once a year, but the lessons it leaves with you will carry you on your racing journey for a
lifetime.
You spend months training and preparing, getting both your mind and body ready for the ride –
which spans 250km – 350km in a single loop over three days in the beautiful Lesotho.
The Roof brings riders from far and wide, some amateur, some professional but all with one
common trait: the love for the ride.
There is something special about tackling a harsh terrain, in a spectacular landscape surrounded by
friends, family and complete strangers that you just cannot replicate or put into words.
Taking in nature at its finest, with the breath-taking views from the Maloti Mountains – these are
scenes you are sure ingrain into your memory. A break from the city views and for some, the fuel
you need to recharge when you return to the ordinary life of sitting behind a desk and being stuck in
afternoon traffic.
Lesotho, like many places in Africa is rich in history and spirit. Not only home to this one-of-a-kind
enduro race but also boasting an immersive cultural experience.
With the Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village at the heart of the Sotho Kingdom, the Bokang Nature Reserve
running between the Leribe and Katse Dam where you can find the Lepaqoa Falls that cascades over
a massive 60 metre cliff, Lake Letsie – one could go on and on about other reasons why you should
choose Lesotho to wind down and break free from your stresses and worries.
Why not make a trip of it?
The Roof of Africa will challenge you in ways you cannot imagine but the rich and diverse landscape
you find yourself in makes taking part (maybe even completing it) a triumphant and overwhelmingly
satisfying experience.
If you miss it this year, be sure to catch the next – you will not regret it.
